The name ‘boemboe’ originated from Indonesian word ‘bumbu’, which means ‘spice’. It describes the variation of Indonesian social-culture reflected in the short films. Boemboe was founded in the beginning of 2003 as a meeting point for everybody who concerns about the development of Indonesian short film. It aims to open the way for independent short filmmakers to develop the networking among themselves and outside Indonesia.

Boemboe is an organization focusing on creating “a space to breath” for the Indonesian short film everywhere in the world in order to support their needs to become more professional and determined in short filmmaking.
